On the other hand, the Ministry implemented the Accessibility Assessment Module (ERDEM) in order to increase the studies on accessibility and to carry out the applications in accordance with the standards. With ERDEM, the Ministry aims to increase awareness about accessibility, to easily identify the necessary regulations for accessibility, and to encourage obtaining an 'accessibility certificate'.
The module includes the basic accessibility questions found in Accessibility Monitoring and Auditing Forms. There are a total of 10 questions in the module, which consists of 281 sections. These questions are answered as 'yes' or 'no'. The system creates an "Accessibility Report" after answering the questions about all areas from the garden to the office.
Thanks to the form that institutions or individuals fill out for their own buildings, what needs to be done to make the buildings accessible can be determined correctly. While the accessibility report regarding the structure produced by the module provides opportunity for the institution / organization / persons to plan accessibility modifications; the occurrence of additional costs afterwards is also prevented.
Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Services, said that accessibility is their first priority for disabled and elderly people to participate in social life. Emphasizing that they attach great importance to enabling disabled citizens to have a more comfortable life and raising awareness with the services provided, Selçuk said, “We aim to make all areas of life accessible to our disabled people, especially our public institutions, with the works we do and will do in 2020. Accessibility is a must for people with disabilities; It is a requirement for a significant portion of the population when we add the elderly. It means a comfortable life for everyone. Because accessibility is for everyone.”
